A heart-rate art install we designed and built for the Dear Nostalgia Project.
The idea
People come to a wellness flea to slow down. We wanted to give them a way to actually see it happen. So we built PULSE. You sit down, put on a heart-rate sensor, close your eyes, and take one quiet minute. Your live heartbeat paints a piece of art on the screen in front of you. When you open your eyes it is finished, and it prints on the spot to take home.
The build
Nobody sells this off the shelf. We wrote the software that reads a heartbeat and turns it into a painting, tuned it so a fast heart runs warm and a calm heart runs cool, and set it to fill over exactly sixty seconds so every piece finishes whole. Sensor, generative art, live printing, one system. It is ours, and we can build a version of it for any brand.
The work
No two came out the same. A piece of each person's quiet minute, painted by their own pulse.
Around ninety-four people sat down, closed their eyes, and left holding a print of their own heartbeat. No two the same.
